Home Schooling Information

This page is for parents and guardians who choose to instruct their child at home. Please find below a typical timline with basic information for home schooling your child. For the exact New York State Education Department's regulations, please see the useful links page in the menu on the left.

Typical Home Instruction Timeline

  1. Submit a letter of intent to home school your child prior to the start of the school year.

  2. The school district will send an Individualized Home Instruction Plan (IHIP) to be completed by the parent(s)/guardian(s).

  3. Submit IHIP to school district for review. The school district will send a letter of approval or denial regarding the IHIP. Should the IHIP not be in compliance, parents/guardians may appeal and resubmit their individualized plan.

  4. Submission of quarterly reports and attendace to the Director of Pupil Personnel Services/K-12 Curriculum. Please find suggested dates for submitting reports below. 

    • First Quarter - November

    • Second Quarter - January

    • Third Quarter - April

    • Fourth Quarter - June (**submission needs to include the final asssessment)
