Congratulations to Mr. Cichon who received the New York State United Teachers Legacy Award for his years of service to the Westmoreland Teachers Association.
Mr. Cichon is the Library Media Specialist in the Jr./Sr. High School. Spanish teacher, Mr. Gamboa, wrote a letter to the WTA detailing Mr. Cichon and why he deserved the award. In the letter, Gamboa mentioned Cichon's time serving as President and Vice President of the WTA. "He’s also participated and contributed in many contract negotiations, always looking out selflessly for the best interests of the union and its members." He also described Mr. Cichon as an employee who goes above and beyond in the classroom and in the union.
This award recognizes those who are the backbone of the union and work tirelessly to make sure its members feel supported. "Jim is a true union leader, welcoming new teachers at the beginning of the year, advising the old and new and fighting strongly for our rights," said Mr. Gamboa.
Mr. Cichon was presented with a framed certificate, pin, coin, keychain and a letter from the NYSUT Vice President at the union meeting on Monday, June 5, 2023.
