WESTMORELAND, N.Y.- On Monday, June 10th, student athletes from section III sports attended a scholar-athlete dinner at the SRC Arena located on the Onondaga Community College Campus. Seniors, Tyler Szarek and Lily Mazur received scholar-athlete of the year for Westmoreland.
Each year the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) recognizes students who keep a grade point average of 90.00 or above while playing sports in school.
Tyler Szarek has been impressive throughout his entire high school career. He played soccer, participated in indoor track and basketball. After graduation, he plans to attend SUNY Cobleskill to major in Fisheries and Aquaculture. His dream is to become a Conservation Officer for the Department of Environmental Conservation. He will continue to play soccer at the University.
Lily Mazur excels in the classroom and on the field. She played tennis, volleyball and softball here at Westmoreland. She plans to stay local! She will take classes at Mohawk Valley Community College in the fall to earn her Associate’s Degree. Once she’s achieved that, she will transfer to a four-year school for a degree in Business. She said she plans on playing softball during her time at MVCC.
Congratulations to our very talented and smart athletes!
