WESTMORELAND, N.Y.- The Westmoreland Central School District and Oneida-Madison-Herkimer BOCES will conduct a "lockdown" drill on Monday, November 25, 2024. We will also hold a "go home early" and "evacuation" drill on Tuesday, November 26.
New state regulations require school districts to hold two "lockdown" drills before the end of the calendar year. Our district will have a lockdown DRILL on Monday, November 25, 2024 at 9:15 a.m. Law enforcement and first responders will be present, so there will be activity on our campus. Please keep in mind THIS IS JUST A DRILL. We will hold one more lockdown drill before the end of the calendar year, we will notify families of a date once that is scheduled. Please contact the building principals with any questions regarding the lockdown drill.
Our "go home early" and "evacuation" drill will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024. The need for the "evacuation" drill is to ensure our students and staff are aware of how to exit the campus if the traditional dismissal procedures can't be followed. Among other reasons, the common reason that this could happen is if Route 233 is closed unexpectedly for a natural disaster, like a flood or for an accident in which law enforcement may need to close the road. Safety is our number one priority, and this drill allows us to identify alternative locations for dismissal and practice evacuating from that site safely. For our "go home early" drill, our district communications department will notify families via text of when each building's drill is complete and they can pick up their child. All building Principals have written a letter with their plans for the drills and have sent them home. We encourage families to read the letters as there are pick-up instructions and times for each building.
