WESTMORELAND, N.Y.- The Principal for the Primary Elementary School, Dr. Jessica Maine, will host a parent night for those who are interested in a multiage classroom setting.
The Westmoreland Central School District started offering the grades K-1 Multiage classroom during the 2022-23 school year. This class is a mixed-age group of children balanced by age and ability. The purpose for this type of class is to support learners at all levels in a child-centered approach. Our teachers act as facilitators of learning, rather than instructing the whole class based on a predetermined set of skills.
Students in this class will be able to learn at different levels. For example: a kindergarten student can receive instruction at the kindergarten level, and a kindergarten student who is already beyond kindergarten level can receive instruction at the first grade level. These are just two examples of what the multiage classroom can do.
We encourage parents to attend the meeting on April 30, 2025, if they're interested in this type of learning for their child.
