Dear Parents and Guardians:
Today we were made aware of a picture that was posted to social media of a student posing with
what appeared to be a barrel of a weapon protruding from behind him. We quickly investigated
the matter and determined that the student did not have an actual weapon in the picture and that
no threat to student safety was presented. Rather, the weapon had been photo-shopped into the
picture prior to the social media posting.
First, I would like to say that we were able to quickly investigate and rule out an actual threat to
safety due to the quick action of our students who reported this to a teacher, who then quickly
reported it to the building principal. We can’t say enough of how great it is to have students
follow the rule of “See Something, Say Something.” Second, even though it was determined that
an actual threat was not present, we take any and all apparent threats very seriously and will
continue to use our code of conduct to help deal with the situation. Third, law enforcement was
notified, and they are also helping further with the investigation.
Please know that we take the safety and security of your children very seriously. We always have
and we will continue to investigate any safety issue with the utmost priority. If you have any
questions, please contact the main office at (315) 557-2616
