Each month, a qualifying junior is named Westmoreland Kiwanis Student of the Month. Award winners are selected by faculty and staff based on the following criteria:
· Minimum average of 80;
· Good citizenship and character; and
· Active participation in school and community activities.
The Westmoreland Kiwanis Student of the Month for the month of April is Mariana Foppes, daughter of Melissa and David Foppes.
Mariana is a very active member of our community, particularly in 4-H by helping build jumps and obstacles for competitions. She also volunteers at tack auctions and is a member of National Honor Society.
After graduating from Westmoreland Jr./Sr. High School, Mariana plans to attend a four-year college and aspires to become a conservation biologist.

Kiwanis of Westmoreland is a local branch of Kiwanis International. The mission of the nonprofit service organization is to “empower communities to improve the world by making lasting differences in the lives of children.” Local clubs look out for our communities and the international organization takes on large-scale challenges, such as fighting disease and poverty.
